Become a THH Intern
We are actively monitoring the rapidly evolving situation surrounding the global spread of COVID-19. Since the health and safety of our community is a top priority, we are taking a number of precautionary measures including putting all our internship programmes on hold.
At THH we offer two different Internship Programs; the Zimbabwe Internship Program (ZIP) is for those who live in Zimbabwe and are able to work on site at THH and/or for those interested in a student work placement/practicum. The Virtual Internship Program (VIP) is for anyone, anywhere who has Internet access and a computer. Our internship programs are a great way to be directly involved and immersed in the vision and mission of THH. Interns part of the ZIP program will be required to work on site in Epworth.
A THH internship is a perfect opportunity for anyone that is looking to work in the NGO sector or gain experience in running a small but effective non-profit organization. We are looking for interns who are interested in assisting us with the running of our organization. We have the knowledge, experience and track record. You will be encouraged to use initiative and take a hands-on approach to your work by setting up new project initiatives and supporting our current programs and projects. If you want to get involved and learn what it takes to run an NGO this is the place for you.
Our interns are not paid, not because they are worthless but because they are priceless. The responsibilities will depend on the individual’s level of experience and the department the intern is working for and the duration of the internship. The internship term length is negotiable. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Who are we looking for?
✓ Resourceful self-starters who work efficiently independently and as part of a team.
✓ Smart people who are able to process information and communicate it in a productive manner.
We are looking for enthusiastic self-motivated people because once you are settled in and know what to do you will be expected to manage your time and achieve results with minimal supervision. We will of course always be on hand to offer assistance and advice but we cannot and do not offer constant supervision. Candidates will need adaptability, patience and a sense of humor.
All interns are expected to maintain the highest level of confidentiality, ethical standards, trust and integrity while representing the organization and in advancing the THH mission. The interns will work in close partnership with the staff and the Senior Management Team.
Language Requirement: All positions require knowledge of English. Knowledge of written/spoken Shona, Ndebele, Dutch and/or other languages is an asset but is not required.
Benefits of being a THH Intern
1. In larger organizations interns are usually assigned menial tasks but with us you have the opportunity to make a real difference.
2. The internship provides hands-on work-based learning, equipping you with the practical and professional experience. You will leave with practical and theoretical knowledge in the non profit sector.
3. Flexibility and Specificity. Interns are able to choose which department(s) they want to work in, the length of the internship, and the hours they work. Since assignments can be completed at your convenience our internship program easily accommodates students. We are also aware of stressful exam periods and we will be considerate.
4. You will enhance your communication skills. Since interns will have to communicate with us via email, telephone/Skype or morse code (if you must) you will automatically develop and exercise your communication skills.
5. After you successfully complete your internship we will be happy to provide you with a recommendation letter based on our experience working with you.
6. Diversity. Whether you are part of the ZIP or VIP program our internship structure allows you to virtually connect and collaborate with other interns from around the world.
7. Build up your International IQ with international experience and exposure. You will learn about the social, economic and political challenges facing Zimbabweans and gain exposure to real-world problems and solutions. You will leave with experience working in a cross-cultural work environment.
8. You get to occupy your time in a meaningful way and positively effect change as you help make our vision of seeing all children thrive as valued members of their community become a reality.
9. You will be challenged and you will learn to innovate. Yes we will be there to teach/support and guide you, but there will be times when you’ll be asked to do things you’ve never done before or have no training in. As a result you’ll be inspired when things work out and learn something new when they don’t. You will also gain confidence in your abilities.
10. You have the opportunity to create and develop your own project from start to finish. So you have a chance to use your imagination, creativity to try something and have your work have a lasting impact on our organization and the children we work for.
