Suggested Fundraising Events
Here are a few stress-free fundraising events to give you an idea of how simple it is to get involved and become a THH fundraiser, learn new skills and help raise funds for our wonderful deserving kids.
Collect Change for Change
This one is great if you are new to your neighbourhood or you still haven't met your neighbours. You can go door to door collecting change. Introduce yourself, tell them about our organization, collect change, offer them to join you collecting change or to come at the end of your campaign and help you count the money.
Teacher Spelling Bee or Adult Spelling Bee
If you are a student at school you can turn the tables on your teachers and ask them to participate in a Spelling Bee. You can set an entrance fee for each team. A team can be made up of 2 teachers from the same department. You can host the event at your school, invite the rest of the school to come and watch and charge them a small fee. Alternatively you could ask your parents to participate in an Adult Spelling Bee at your school or local community centre.
Street or Neighborhood garage sale
Organize a street sale or a neighborhood garage sale. The kids and teens can create posters to advertise the event and distribute them. A table can be set up at the end of your lane on a nice Saturday. Price and place your items on the table. For those neighbors who have nothing to sell they can help sell the items and help with cleaning up at the end.
Street or Neighborhood Food Fair
Similar idea to the street sale or neighborhood garage sale except you and your neighbors sell food you made. Each family can contribute a dish they cooked and then you invite people to come and buy your goods. You could also have a Braai or BBQ station.
Rent a Worker
Get a group of volunteers to commit to working for an afternoon or a couple of hours doing jobs sponsors "hire" them to do. Or you can make it an auction and volunteers can auction off their skills or talents e.g. cooking a delicious meal.
Lawn/ Snow Maintenance
Ask a neighbor, community park, local store or your parents if you can garden, shovel, pick weeds, cut grass, or rake leaves, shovel snow in exchange for a donation.
Pump up the Funds
Coordinate with a local petrol/gas station to have volunteers serve as gas station attendants who pump gas and clean windshields for donations for a day.
Dress Down at Work or School (Civvies Day)
Talk to your boss or teacher to organize a dress-down day. For a donation participants can dress casually for the day.
